Frédéric Garnier was born in 1970. He lives and works at Troyes. he chose to express himself through different mediums such as photos, videos, installations and drawings.
All his creations stage our questioning on the human existence. Its beginning and its end. its sense and what we name usually «The After ». Then what survives us, is born, stays in memory, like traces of life.
Each one of his works brings a contemporary lighting to these universal questions. In his way, he tries to replace them in the center of our concerns. The materials used, such as the gold survival blankets, cement and Plexiglas, link strongly to our current events.
His work avoids skillfully the gravity, the blackness and the cynicism. His creations are put together in an immense riddle on the theme of «The After» and of «The Beyond». A riddle where sky and earth (that we dig) are mixed, the Sky and the Earth (where we live), the faiths and the doubts, the absence and the memories … A riddle which invites us to smile and then think.
The gallery Géraldine Banier is pleased to present the first personal exhibition of Frédéric Garnier. From 1st of june till 30th of June, we invite you to discover his new series of photos «jump» and a selection of new sculptures and installations.
The jump series, realized in 2011, approach with poetry and modernity a recurent theme in his work: the passage towards beyond. The question of the transmission is here very present, as his son, Joseph, contemporary dancer, is the artist in these series.
Skulls, shovels, supposed to dig graves, are metamorphosing to help us to escape the fate, the deaf sounds of palpitations, the mechanics of time: Frédéric Garnier takes us in his intimate universe which echoes with the universal and insane search for the understanding of existence. He puts on these profound subjects an «adolescent» look, full of humor and derision.
