WANG Yu holds a DEA in Fine Arts (2003) (University of Paris I, Panthéon-Sorbonne) and a Masters in Fine Arts from the Nankin Art Institute, China. She was a tenured teacher at the Shanghai Institute of Fine Arts from 1999 to 2001.
The figures that populate her paintings are both ethereal and anchored in the reality of the various materials that compose them. Her paintings are produced using a specific process, the result of collaboration with a major American paint manufacturer, Golden, who created a custom-made medium for her, giving the illusion of "palpable and living flesh on cloth". WANG Yu style mixes ancestral Chinese and European Chinese iconography in delicate compositions animated by sensuality and emotion. This alliance of style and technique transcends geography and eras and places humanity at the heart of painting.
